Friday Event at Covenant

I just received an email from the coach at Covenant. Friday's match will be at Covenant's Upper School (175 Hickory Street) this time. 
We will begin at 4:30pm on two mats. As of this morning they have about 8 kids that are elementary age. The weights range from 50lbs to 90lbs. Any of our CWC kids that are close to or in that range should be able to get at least one match. They have several middle school kids from several schools listed as attending. Middle school kids should get several matches. 

Also, don't forget the UVA Wrestling Team will be wrestling Nationally ranked NC State at Memorial Gym at 7:00 this Friday night! It's FREE and very family friendly!

Meeting with Coach Garland

CWC Parents,

 

A couple of things:

-          UVa Head Coach Steve Garland would like to chat with the CWC Club parents tomorrow for 5-10 min at the beginning of practice (6pm) at Mem Gym. 

o   He wants to introduce himself and give a little background on the structure of the CWC.  Specifically, the involvement of the CWC-Olympic Regional Training Center resident athletes in the CWC Youth Program. 

 

-          A reminder to get registered for the CWC Casino Night (see attached) that will take place Saturday 23 Feb at the English Inn at 530pm.  It is a great opportunity to meeting the UVa staff/team, mingle with other CWC parents, and support the CWC.  Register HERE.

 

-          UVa Wrestling has a huge match this Friday at 7pm against NC State at Mem Gym.  The matches are free and they are a BLAST.  My kids fell in love with wrestling by attending; you are close the action and there is a ton of excitement.  Please come out and support the Hoos!!!!

Friday Evening Wrestling @ Covenant

We are the only other Youth team besides Covenant, however, and they don't have a ton of youth wrestlers. The Covenant match director will reach out to their youth coach and get a confirmed list of their youth wrestlers coming on Friday so we know what to expect.

Message about Sunday at Orange

From Dan Bono (Wrestling Director for Sunday)

Gentleman,

This Sunday we will be at Orange at their field house near the high school. Please be there by 11:30 with wrestling to begin no later than 1:00.

I will still be doing the pairings so please have your list updated and to me no later than Friday night. I am willing to accommodate people who show up or pull kids who don't show up but it just makes it later to start and the pairings are not as good.

Speaking of pairings, if you have a kid who you think needs to go up a weight division or an age bracket to get better competition please let me know. Conversely, if you have a kid that is getting hammered and needs to be in a competitive match please let me know, I'll do my best to get them in the best group.

I currently break it into K-1, 2-3, and 4-5. Depending on records I may move a 1st grader up to into 2nd grader groups or a 3rd to wrestle 4th graders (etc.). If I have birthdays you may see an older 3rd grader wrestle a young 5th grader for example.

-          Mem Gym considerations

o   As you enter, could you please encourage the kids to NOT use the handicap buttons, this keeps the doors open for 30 seconds and makes it very cold for the front desk staff when done repeatedly.

o   Please ensure that you keep the walkways/hallways clear the best that we can.  I know it can get crowded but your efforts are appreciated

§  This is particularly pertinent to the back stairwell, you can sit there but please ensure that you maintain a clear path.

CWC Parents,

 

Two things:

-          There is a competition opportunity this weekend for CWC wrestlers (of all levels) on Sunday 20 Jan from 12-230 at Louisa County, HS (see prior email for details).  Please fill out spreadsheet ASAP (but by 10am on Sat at the latest) so that we can pass it to the event organizers CWC Match Attendance.

 

-          The CWC will host a Casino Night on Sat 23 Feb (see attached flier).  This event is our primary fundraiser and helps to enable your kids to continue to learn from elite wrestlers like former UVa Wrestler Ray Bethea, NAIA All-American Ceron Fransisco, and NCAA All-American Earl Hall.

o   You will get to mingle with NCAA All-Americans and the current UVa team/staff.

o   Please mark your calendars try to attend and if not then consider a donation. 

o   We need your support!!!!

This Sunday 1/20 and future events

For those of you attending the event at Louisa, here is the info sent out from the Louisa Director;

Sunday Schedule:

When you come to the school walk down the sidewalk and down the stairs to the right of the building as you face it (stadium side). Enter in door 34. (Same door as the Sizzler if you were there). Check in at the table just inside the gym.

Please be checked in by 12:00 with wrestling to begin soon after. If you have kids who are not coming Sunday but will be coming on future Sundays please indicate that. I will be making groups prior to Sunday and the more accurate the lists are the faster we start. The first Sunday we were finished a little after 2.

Depending on numbers mats will be divided into halves, thirds, or quarters. I foresee having the younger kids wrestle then the middle schoolers on full mats. If needed we will use the middle school time as a break and the younger kids can finish up after. 

Other things:

-We will provide high school wrestlers as officials. Coach Dan Leale will oversee them. Most of them already have experience doing this.

-There will be concessions available

-Please keep food and drink out of the gym and in the cafeteria.

Wrestling Sunday Canceled

CWC Parents and wrestlers,

The event scheduled for this Sunday Jan 13 has been canceled. The event director sent out a message that the school district will not allow any events to happen in the school due to the treat of a serious winter storm that will be in the area Sat and Sunday. Have a good weekend and stay off the roads if possible.

CWC Parents

For those of you that are planning to attend the Wrestling events this weekend the point of contact (POC) at the event for Friday evening is Coach Pilkey and the POC for Sunday will be Coach Bosek. Please fill in your wrestler's information on the spread sheet (link below) and we will send it to the Event Directors by noon tomorrow. 

The Director for the event on Sunday is watching the weather and will let us know if there is a change in the event or cancellation. I will send out an email and on the Team Manager app when/if I hear anything. Thanks

Sunday 1/13/2019 Schedule and Info

Check in starts at 11:00 and ends at noon. I ask that anyone coming sends me a list of wrestlers with age, weight, experience, and USA #. I make the brackets the night before and we get rolling as close to noon as possible. We had 60+ kids last Sunday and we were done by 2:30. We will have 30+ more kids this week.

Sunday Schedule:

When you come to the school walk down the sidewalk and down the stairs to the right of the building as you face it (stadium side). Enter in door 34. (Same door as the Sizzler if you were there). Check in at the table.

Please be checked in by 12:00 with wrestling to begin soon after. If you have kids who are not coming Sunday but will be coming on future Sundays please indicate that. I will be making groups prior to Sunday and the more accurate the lists are the faster we start.

Other things:

-We will provide high school wrestlers as officials. Coach Dan Leale will oversee them. Most of them already have experience doing this.

-There will be concessions available

-Please keep food and drink out of the gym and in the cafeteria.

There are 2 CWC Dual competition opportunities this weekend.  Please fill out this SPREADSHEET to indicate if you will be attending as well as your child's weight, age, and experience level and USA Card #.  We will need this completed for both competitions by Friday at noon, so that we can make the competition pairings.

Covenant

- Who:  Elementary/Middle (no Pee-Wee)

- When:  Friday 5:30pm, arrive by 5pm for warm-ups 

- Where:  Lower School Gym (1000 Birdwood Road, Charlottesville 22903)

Louisa County:

- Who:  Pee-Wee/Elementary/Middle 

- When:  Sunday 12:00, Check in starts at 11:00
