Casino Night is this weekend!

Dear CWC Parents,
This is just a reminder that Cavalier Wrestling Club's Casino Night is taking place this Saturday, January 30, at Veritas Vineyard and Winery. I promise, it will be the most fun you have all winter, and it is the perfect way to support the Cavalier Wrestling Club and youth wrestling in central Virginia.

Important: Tuesday Night's CWC Practices

Dear Parents,
We had a good turnout this evening for practice. Thank you to those of you who were able to travel safely through the snow to join us. We will be having practice on Tuesday evening as well. However, because Charlottesville High School is closed tomorrow, WE WILL BE COMBINING THE PEE WEE AND ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL PRACTICES. BOTH WILL TAKE PLACE AT UVA.
 
Pee Wee parents, please do not go to Charlottesville High School tomorrow night. Instead practice will be take place at 6 pm in the UVA Wrestling Room at Onesty Hall.

Elementary/Middle School practice is on for tonight!

Dear CWC Parents,
I hope you've all weathered the storm safely this past weekend. Because we know that many of you are probably looking for an excuse to get your kids out of the house after a long weekend, we are planning to hold practice tonight. Coach Harshaw and Coach Wiles are awesome, and they have volunteered to be at UVA at 6 pm tonight for anyone who is interested in joining them. That said, I must stress that you should only attend if you feel like it is safe for you to travel.
 
Please check your email again this evening for an update about Tuesday night's practices.We will make a decision about tomorrow's practices after seeing how things go tonight.

Tomorrow Night's CWC Match Cancelled

Dear CWC Parents, 
I regret to inform you that tomorrow night's wrestling match against Appomattox and Covenant has been cancelled due to the pending storm. The UVA wrestling match against Duke has also been postponed and rescheduled for Friday, February 5. We are looking into whether our CWC match can also be rescheduled for that date. I'll be in touch when we have more information about that.
 
In the meantime, tonight's live wrestling practice for the Elementary/Middle School group is still on at UVA.

CWC Wrestling Match on Friday

CWC Parents,
This is just a reminder to let us know by today if you son will be wrestling in the CWC match this Friday night prior to the UVA wrestling match. Pee Wee parents, please contact me at jdw244@hotmail.com. Parents of Elementary/Middle wrestlers, please contact Coach Kammauff at john.kammauff@varian.com.
 
Arrival Time and Schedule of Matches
Regarding the schedule on Friday, we hope to begin wrestling as close to 4 pm as possible. Please arrive by 3:30 pm. All CWC matches will conclude by 5:30 pm. If work prevents you from bringing your child that early, but you plan to attend and can be there no later than 4:45 pm, please let me or Coach Kammauff know, and we will do our best to arrange a match for your son later in the afternoon. We will be wrestling Covenant School first, and Appomattox Youth Wrestling Club second.
 
Pizza Party and UVA Wrestling Match
After our matches conclude, we will have pizza available for all of our wrestlers (and parents as well). Stick around to enjoy some pizza and cheer on the UVA Wrestling Team as they take on the Duke Blue Devils!
 
Impending Winter Weather
Also, we are watching the weather, and there is a possibility that the impending storm may cause us to postpone or cancel. Please don't let this stop you from responding if you child would like to compete on Friday. I will make the call regarding the match by email as early as Thursday evening and no later than Friday at noon. Please check your email regularly for updates.

Cavalier Wrestling Club Weekly Update

Dear CWC Parents,
Happy MLK Day! I hope that you've all had a good weekend. I want to congratulate all the parents whose children competed this past weekend in our match with Waynesboro. I was unable to attend, but all reports were that our wrestlers competed very well, and it was a fun morning in the UVA wrestling room. We have another exciting week planned for the CWC. Please read below for all the details.
 
Tuesday Night Practice at UVA Cancelled: Due to the UVA Men's Basketball game tomorrow evening, there will be no Advanced (Elementary/Middle School) practice at UVA. However, ALL OTHER PRACTICES WILL TAKE PLACE AS SCHEDULED THIS WEEK, including tonight's Basics practice at UVA, tomorrow night's Pee Practice at CHS, and Thursday night's Live Wrestling practice at UVA.
 
Special Match "Under the Lights" at UVA this Friday: This Friday, January 22, our wrestlers will have the opportunity to compete against wrestling clubs from Appomattox and Covenant. These matches will be held in Memorial Gymnasium and they will precede UVA's wrestling match against Duke. We will begin wrestling at 4 pm, and we will have pizza available for all the wrestlers after our matches. The UVA match will begin at 7 pm, and we are encouraging all wrestlers and their families to stick around to cheer on the Hoos. Pee Wee parents, please email me at jdw244@hotmail.com no later than Wednesday to let me know if your son will be competing. Elementary/Middle School parents, please email Coach Kammauff at john.kammauff@varian.com no later than Wednesday to let him no if your son will be competing.

• Sunday, Feb. 21, 2:30 - 5:30 pm, at Orange County High School -  Matches against Orange County, Greene County & Madison County.
• Saturday, Feb. 27 pm at Orange County High School (Time TBD) - Tournament for kindergarten - 8th grade. More information to come.

Cavalier Wrestling Club Weekly Update

Dear CWC Parents,
Wow, what a great day of wrestling we had today! Thank you to everyone who made the trip to William Monroe High School for our matches against Greene County and Madison County. I believe that nearly all of our wrestlers got at least three matches, and some got as many as five or six! Most importantly, all of our wrestlers seemed to be enjoying themselves. More than anything, that is what makes us coaches happy.
 
I have several important announcements this week, including a schedule change and a match cancellation. Please continue reading below.
 
Elementary/Middle School practice canceled on Tuesday: Due to the UVA Men's Basketball game, this week's Tuesday night (Advanced) practice at UVA will be cancelled. (Next week's Tuesday night practice (Jan. 19) at UVA will also need to be cancelled for the same reason.) PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IN NO WAY AFFECTS PRACTICE FOR PEE WEE WRESTLERS. PEE WEE PRACTICE WILL TAKE PLACE AT CHARLOTTESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL AS SCHEDULED.
 
Thursday night match against Covenant, POSTPONED: In last week's update, I included a schedule of future competitions. That schedule listed a match against the Covenant School's Youth Wrestling Club slated for this Thursday evening. That match has been postponed and will now be held in conjunction with our match against Appomattox immediately preceding the UVA vs. Duke wrestling match in Memorial Gymnasium on Friday, January 22. Please see the updated schedule below for more information.
 
Match next Saturday against Waynesboro: The CWC will be hosting Waynesboro Youth Wrestling Club for a match in the UVA Wrestling Room next Saturday. The match is for all ages, and it will begin at 11 am. Additional details will be forthcoming later in the week. Pee Wee wrestlers who are interested in attending, please contact Coach Walker (jdw244@hotmail.com), and Elementary/Middle School Wrestlers, please contact Coach Kammauff (john.kammauff@varian.com).
 
Singlets: If you were given a singlet at today's wrestling match, please do your best to wash it and return it to Coach Chris Wiles during practice on Monday evening (or Tuesday for Pee Wee wrestlers). If, for whatever reason, you will be unable to wash the singlet prior to practice this week, please email Coach Wiles, at chris.wiles@stvfd.org, to let him know.
 
Casino Night: One of the CWC's most important (and fun) events of the year, Casino Night, is coming up on Saturday, January 30. More information will be coming out this week, but please purchase your tickets for the evening now using this link: http://cavalier.ticketleap.com/casino-night-2016/

Cavalier Wrestling Club Update

Dear CWC Parents, 
Happy New Year! I hope that you have all gotten 2016 off to a good start this past weekend. On that note, I am happy to report that several of our wrestlers competed in a tournament at EC Glass High School in Lynchburg this past weekend. A big congratulations goes out to Jameson, Aiden , Walter, Braeden, Christian, Drew, Jackson, Joey, and Miles for representing the Cavalier Wrestling Club so well last Saturday!
 
I have several important announcements this week. Please see below.
 

1. CWC wrestling match this weekend: We have the opportunity to compete against wrestlers from Greene County this Sunday at William Monroe High School. This meet is open to wrestlers of all ages and ability levels (Pee Wee, Elementary, Middle School). Wrestling will begin at 2:30 pm, and it will be up to each of you to make travel arrangements to and from William Monroe High School. Competitions like this are completely optional, but we highly encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities. CWC coaches will be present for this competition.
• If your child is a ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL WRESTLER, please contact Coach John Kammauff (john.kammauff@varian.com) to let him know whether your child will be wrestling on Sunday. Please let Coach Kammauff know no later than Wednesday, January 6.
• If your child is a PEE WEE WRESTLER, please contact me (Josh Walker - jdw244@hotmail.com) no later than Wednesday, January 6, to let me know if your child will be joining us on Sunday.
2. Practices: All practices will take place as regularly scheduled this week.
3. Future Competitions:
• Sunday, Jan. 10 at 2:30 pm - Tri Meet with Greene County at William Monroe HS (All ages)
• Thursday, Jan. 14 at 4 pm - Match with Covenant at Covenant's Upper Campus (All ages, but limited to 15-20 wrestlers. Coaches will arrange match-ups and contact parents prior to this match)
• Saturday, Jan. 16 (Time TBD) - Match with Waynesboro at UVA
• (Tentative) Friday, Jan 22 - Match with Appomattox here in Charlottesville. More details to come...
• Tuesday, Feb. 2 at (Time TBD) - Tri-Meet with Wilson Memorial (Middle School Wrestlers Only)
4. SAVE THE DATE: This year's Cavalier Wrestling Club Casino Night will take place on Saturday, January 30, at Veritas Vineyards. Please join us for a night of food, fun, friends, and gaming. Casino Night is one of our two major annual fundraisers for the CWC. More information will be forthcoming, but I highly encourage you to mark your calendars and make plans to join us for a very fun evening!
