VAWA Team at Mason-Dixon Quad Event Description: This is one of the toughest dual meet tournaments in our region for Middle School (MS) / Elementary School (ES) wrestlers. Though it only has four teams, the teams from Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland have consistently been represented by great wrestlers. Many have gone on to high school and College All-American status. In recent history, Mason-Dixon Quad participants Jordan Oliver, Frank Molinaro, Quentin Wright, and Bubba Jenkins went on to win multiple NCAA Championships, and Kyle Snyder won the World Freestyle Championship Title. No wrestler was selected based upon their participation in GR/FS, however, it appears that participating in GR/FS does elevate performance. I encourage every ES/MS wrestler to find a quality GR/FS practice room, compete early and often this spring, and earn their right to compete on the 2016 VAWA SB GR/FS National Duals Team, and 2016 VAWA Kids GR/FS National Team. This is a very talented team of deserving young men. Doug Fisher and I look forward to coaching them on 02JAN. Thanks to every coach and parent who participated in the process. To address questions on process: Candidates were identified through trackwrestling results from the 2015 VACW State Tournament forward, then supplemented and refined by information provided by club coaches and parents, with the most recent head-to-head (were it existed) being a primary factor. All candidates in each weight class were then ranked-ordered according to the available facts. In rank order, parents were offered the opportunity to commit their wrestler to the spot earned. In the few cases where a parent declined the spot earned, that spot was offered to the parent of the next highest ranked wrestler Organizer: David Manville; david.l.manville.civ@mail.mil |
