CWC Announcements 1/9

Good afternoon CWC Families,

If you have not signed up for the Richmond Metro Youth Wrestling League and wish to wrestle Sunday, please sign up on our website by this Thursday, January 11. As a reminder, this is a league for beginner wrestlers, and it is a great way to learn how to wrestle in tournaments and get some matches in with kids from other teams. The league is a one time payment of $35, which gets you access to 4 matches plus a t-shirt. The matches are at Deep Run High School near Richmond on the following dates:
  • Sunday 1/14  
  • Sunday 1/21 
  • Sunday 2/4  
  • Sunday 2/11 RMYWL Champs Tournament

We would love to see you at Casino Night on February 17! This is a fundraiser for the Cavalier Wrestling Club. The CWC has two branches: the scholastic program our kids are in, as well as a USA Wrestling Regional Olympic Training Center that funds athletes such as Jay Aiello. Jay was a USA National Team member last year, and he helps train our kids while he is training to compete at the USA Olympic Team Trials this April. Richmond Metro League

Good morning CWC Families,

We are excited to be a part of the Richmond Metro Youth Wrestling League this year! The first event is a clinic next Sunday, January 7th. This is a cheap, convenient, and great opportunity for our beginner/intermediate wrestlers to have an "on ramp" to competition in a low pressure environment where there will be wrestlers of similar age/experience/skill.

Sign up for the RMYWL clinic at http://www.cavalierwrestlingclub.org/shop/EVENT by THURSDAY, JANUARY 4. The $35 will get you in to the clinic, as well as all of the RMYWL matches. If you do not want to participate in the clinic, but decide later you want to participate in a match, we can add you to the roster later, but you must register for the clinic by January 4.

January 7 Clinic Details
  • Location: Deep Run High School - 4801 Twin Hickory Rd, Glen Allen, VA
  • Registration begins at 10 am (wrestlers will weigh in so we have weights for future matches)
  • Clinic runs from 11 am - 1 pm
  • Clinician is UVA coach Travis Paulson!
  • Wear practice attire - no matches will be wrestled 
  • Light concessions will be offered
Please sign up on our website by the deadline. You can NOT register at the door or after January 4. Go to the sign up on our website for additional details about the league.

We hope to see many of you register for the clinic! As a reminder, normal practice resumes Monday, January 1.

Holiday Schedule / CWC Announcements

Good morning CWC Families,

Just a reminder on our holiday practice schedule:

  • Week of December 18-21: normal practice schedule
  • Week of December 25-29: NO PRACTICE
  • January 1: normal practice schedule resumes

If your family is away or busy this week, no worries. We will look forward to seeing you when you return.

We are finalizing our free CWC T-shirt order now, so if you have not had a chance, please FILL OUT THIS FORM to let us know what sizes your child(ren) will need. This order will be submitted in the next couple of days.

We have an exciting opportunity for beginner CWC wrestlers to get match experience through the Richmond Metro League. This is optional, and it is for beginners only. We will have more tournament opportunities for advanced wrestlers.  We will collect a one time payment of $35 that will get your wrestler access to the clinic, all of the matches at Deep Run HS, plus a T-shirt. This is a great value - most tournaments have a registration fee of around $35 per tournament. Please save these dates, and note that we will need to provide volunteers for the concession stand on the highlighted dates. I have attached a document with more information about the league. The sign up and payment will be available soon.

CWC Announcements / Tournament Opportunity

CWC Families,

We hope your wrestlers have enjoyed the first week of practice! Please continue to sign them in and out of practice each day on the sign in sheet in the wrestling room. Also, please enter through the back of Memorial Gym on the side nearest the parking garage. The door will be propped open at least 10 minutes before practice. If you missed the first day of practice parent meeting, I have attached an outline of what Coach Jimmy and Coach Trent discussed. 

We will be ordering our annual free CWC T-shirt soon, so FILL OUT THIS FORM to let me know your children's sizes. Please have this done by Wednesday, December 6.

If you did not get a chance to order singlets, shirts, etc. from our NEW TEAM STORE, this is the LAST AND FINAL CHANCE! They have not closed it down yet, but our online store will officially close tonight 12/1 at midnight, so place your orders now! https://cavalierwrestlingclub.itemorder.com/shop/home/

If you are interested in helping our coaches on the mat, we welcome all parents. You are required by USA Wrestling to have a background check and Safe Sport training to be on the mat. To do this, log in to your account at  https://www.usawmembership.com/. Create your own profile, and follow the directions to complete the background check and Safe Sport training. Email me a photo of your card or usaw# once this is completed.

I have attached a flyer for a TOURNAMENT OPPORTUNITY next Saturday, December 9 in Lynchburg. Registration is due on trackwrestling by Friday 12/8 at 8:00 p.m. There will be a CWC coach at this tournament. Feel free to email me or talk to a coach before/after practice if you have questions about tournaments. Also please email me to let me know if you have signed up, so our coaches know who is coming.
