RE: Cavalier Wrestling Club Weekly Update

Parents,
A few quick clarifications regarding the email I sent out last night.
 

• The special Pee Wee practice will take place TONIGHT, at 6 pm, in the UVA Wrestling Room, not "next Tuesday" as I incorrectly stated in the bolded heading below. This will be the final Pee Wee practice of the Winter Session, and we plan to make it a fun one.

 

• Wrestlers competing in Staunton against the Young Warriors this evening should arrive by 6 pm (or a few minutes before). Wrestling will begin as soon as possible after arrival.

 

• There will be no Elementary/Middle School practice tonight, BUT THERE WILL BE ONE FINAL PRACTICE THIS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 25.

 

• Wrestlers who have not yet received their t-shirts can pick them up at our banquet on Sunday, March 13. (We will be sending more information about the banquet as soon as we have confirmed a venue.

 

• Attached to this email you will find more information about the wrestling tournament at Wilson Memorial High School (Fishersville) on Saturday, March 5. This a good tournament that is close by, and I would recommend attending if your child would enjoy it.

Important info about upcoming wrestling matches and practices

Dear CWC Parents,
My apologies for my delay in sending my weekly email this week. I have been out of town, but now that I am back, I wanted to update everyone about the exciting events that we have planned for the upcoming week and a half.
 
NEXT WEEK IS OUR LAST WEEK OF PRACTICE
First, I need to remind everyone that next week will be our last official week of practice. This season has flown by, and I hope that each of your kids have had as much fun as we did. We are planning to celebrate the season during our Annual Winter Session Banquet, which is more like a BBQ, and which is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, March 13. More information on the banquet to come.
 
(Also, we are currently making arrangements for our Spring Session, and I will send out dates, times, and sign up information as soon as I am able.)
 
IMPORTANT WRESTLING MATCH INFORMATION
We have two matches coming up in the coming week. You can find information about each match below. PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY TOMORROW NIGHT (THURSDAY) IF YOUR CHILD WOULD LIKE TO WRESTLE IN THE MATCHES THIS SUNDAY (ALL AGES) AND NEXT TUESDAY (ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL ONLY).
 

• Sunday, Feb. 21, 2:30 - 5:30 pm, at Orange County High School (201 Selma Rd, Orange, VA 22960) -  Matches against Orange County, Greene County & Madison County (Wrestlers should arrive at Orange County High School by 2 pm to get warmed up and ready to wrestle.) - THIS MATCH IS FOR ALL WRESTLERS (PEE WEE, ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE SCHOOL)

CWC Practice Tonight: Tues, Feb 16

Dear CWC Parent,

Mother nature is doing her best to keep us off the mats! Charlottesville City Schools have been canceled for today which means we cannot access the CHS wrestling room. We will run a combined practice (Pee Wee + Elementary/Middle School) at the UVA Wrestling Room (directions here: http://cavalierwrestlingclub.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Directions-to-Onesty-Hall.pdf).

If you feel it is safe for you to travel, we'll see you there tonight at 6 pm. If not, practice will be back on the regular schedule for the remainder of the week. 

Please consider the following if you do make it to practice tonight:

1. Mats: Please remove your shoes before stepping onto the mats. There will be a lot of wet feet coming in from outside.
2. Noise: The UVA Room can get pretty noisy with a crowd in there. Please be considerate of the coaches when they are teaching by minimizing conversations and asking younger siblings to be mindful when the coaches are talking.

Tonight's practice is canceled

Dear CWC Parents,
Due to weather and the men's basketball game, tonight's CWC practice will be canceled. At this time, we are planning to hold all practices as regularly scheduled tomorrow evening (Tuesday night). Unless you hear otherwise from us, you can assume practice is on for tomorrow.

Cavalier Wrestling Club Weekly Update

Dear CWC Parents,
(Quick note: Tuesday's night's practice at UVA is cancelled. Please read below for more information.)

 

Thank you to everyone who came out for our "Under the Lights" match last Friday. For those who could not make it, we competed against wrestlers from Appomattox, Madison, Smith Mountain Lake, and Covenant School. All of our wrestlers got at least one match, and each represented the CWC with complete class. As coaches, we couldn't be more proud. After the matches concluded we had pizza (compliments of UVA), and many stuck around to cheer the Hoos on to victory in their match against Duke. Bottom line...it was a great night!

 

A huge thank you goes out to Coach John Kammauff for his efforts to arrange matches for all of our wrestlers. That is not an easy task, and we consider ourselves very fortunate to have John as a part of our team. I would also like to thank UVA Head Wrestling Coach Steve Garland for welcoming our wrestlers into Memorial Gymnasium with open arms. We are very lucky to have some of the very best college wrestling coaches in the country right here in our community. The fact that they care so much about our kids and about youth wrestling in general makes it even better.

Tuesday night's Elementary and Middle School practice at UVA is CANCELLED: Tomorrow night's Advanced practice at UVA is cancelled due to the UVA men's basketball game again Virginia Tech. Pee Wee practice will still take place at Charlottesville High School as scheduled, though. Thursday night's live wrestling practice will take place at UVA.
 
Sign up now for summer wrestling camps: One of the highlights of my summers growing up was attending wrestling camp with my friends and teammates. I can't encourage you enough to have your kid or kids attend a wrestling camp this summer. Not only will they develop as athletes and as young men, but they will meet other wrestlers, and chances are they will develop friendships that will last through high school and beyond. FW: Powhatan tournament cancelled

Dear CWC Parents,
Early this week, I sent out information about a wrestling tournament at Powhatan this Saturday. I believe that some of you were planning to attend. That tournament has been cancelled. We recently found this out, and we wanted to make sure that everyone was made aware. (A huge thanks to Coach Wiles for finding this out and passing the information along.)
