RE: Additional Wrestling Opportunities

Dear CWC Parents,
This is just a quick follow-up to the email that I sent yesterday. Several parents have contacted me to let me know that they will be taking their child to compete at the EC Glass wrestling tournament in Lynchburg this Saturday. This is fantastic! Competition is the best way for your kids to improve their wrestling skills, and tournaments are a fun way to build friendships with other kids on the team.

In case you were on the fence about registering your child, I wanted to let you know that have a growing number of CWC wrestlers who will be in attendance, and at least one of our CWC coaches, Tony D'Alessio, will be making the trip. Coach D'Alessio will be bringing his own son, Andrew, and he has let me will know that he will be happy to coach your kids as well, should any of you choose to bring them.

I have listed more information about the tournament below. If you decide to register your child, please use this link to sign them up, and be sure to print the flier/waiver that you will need to sign as their parent: http://www.autowrestle.com/

Dear CWC Parents,
Many of you have inquired with me about wrestling opportunities outside of our scheduled CWC matches. Below you will find an email that I received from the Virginia Wrestling Association today. There are several upcoming events listed in this email. The CWC will not necessarily be sending coaches to these events (although we may for some). However, for our wrestlers who are enjoying the sport and looking to get some additional competition experience, these are some great options.

You can also find a list of all VAWA tournaments on their website, here: http://www.virginiawrestling.com/page/show/980380-tournaments

Please let me know if you have any questions, and don't hesitate to contact me if you would like a CWC singlet for your child to wear while competing.

Have a happy New Year!

* Denotes a VAWA National Team member who competed in the 2015 USAW Schoolboy GR/FS National Duals and/or 2015 USAW Kids GR/FS Nationals. No wrestler was selected based upon their participation in GR/FS, however, it appears that participating in GR/FS does elevate performance. I encourage every ES/MS wrestler to find a quality GR/FS practice room, compete early and often this spring, and earn their right to compete on the 2016 VAWA SB GR/FS National Duals Team, and 2016 VAWA Kids GR/FS National Team.

This is a very talented team of deserving young men. Doug Fisher and I look forward to coaching them on 02JAN.

Thanks to every coach and parent who participated in the process.

To address questions on process: Candidates were identified through trackwrestling results from the 2015 VACW State Tournament forward, then supplemented and refined by information provided by club coaches and parents, with the most recent head-to-head (were it existed) being a primary factor. All candidates in each weight class were then ranked-ordered according to the available facts. In rank order, parents were offered the opportunity to commit their wrestler to the spot earned. In the few cases where a parent declined the spot earned, that spot was offered to the parent of the next highest ranked wrestler

VAWA is pleased to announce the formation of the Virginia Wrestling Coaches Association

The disappointing end to the 2014-2015 VHSL wrestling season inspired a great deal of discussion about what we, the wrestling community, can do to ensure that wrestling has a voice.   When our high school coaches began asking their peers about other niche sport communities, we quickly recognized the value of having a state coaches association.  Since last spring, a group of wrestling coaches have worked with VAWA to research and design a basic coaches association.

The Virginia Wrestling Coaches Association (VAWCA) will strive to support, represent and recognize the coaches, wrestling programs and student-athletes that are ultimately the lifeblood of our sport.  We hope to create an organization that adds value to the coaches by giving them a voice when communicating with organizations such as the VHSL and also recognizes wrestlers for their athletic and academic achievements.

Membership is open to all active wrestling coaches at any level or any former coach or fan that would be interested in supporting the Virginia Wrestling Coaches Association. Matt Keel will serve as the Director of the Coaches Association.

You can register online or download and mail your registration. Be sure to check out the the VAWCA page for benefits and recognition programs which will include FREE entry into our spring clinic which will be held on March 12 in Richmond>>>Click Here for more information.
